HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TOUR

Leave the Marina of Marmaris for Caunos. After around one hour drive, arrive in Dalyan, the small beatiful village at the Delta of Koycegiz Lake, which is joining to the Sea of Mediterranean by a natural channel. The maze of waterways are easily explored by the special motorboats. Sailing by motorboats (10 minutes) to the ruins of Caunos, high on the cliff face at the bend in the river above its fascinating ancient harbour. The town is named after Prince Caunos, the son of Miletos. After 10 minutes walking from the jetty near the fish farm visits to the Theater, the Acropolis and the Agora. Further visits to the Lycian Rock Tombs, which are carved in the cliff, 100 m above the river and dating to 4th Century BC. The biggest one is originally built for King Dionysus, who is also acknowledged as the God of Wine and Vegerarive in Greek Mythology. The relatively small tombs on the left were meant for the noble and rich of their time, while small pits carved in the cliff were for ordinary people and slaves. After around 20 minutes sailing along the waterways of the Delta, arrive at the 6 km long beaches of Dalyan, a nature conservation area and the natural preserve for sea turtles "Caretta Caretta", taking a very long way (from Atlantic via Gibraltar) to leave the eggs on this beach. Lunch will be taken in Mediterranean style : a lot of appetisers, called "meze", main dish is the fish of the area : Orfoz. After lunch sailing by motor boats back to the village of Dalyan (20 minutes), where from the car will pick up you to Marmaris Marina.
