OF THE TOUR
Drive
to the ruins of Troy and visit this legendary city of Homeros
with his two epic poems "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey". The city
is also linked with the German Excavator "Schliemann", who discovered
Troy here by using the topographical data found in Homer. When
he discovered golden, silver and bronze vessels, cups, diadems
and earrings, it was the sensation of the age. The city of Troy
is consisting of nine settlements strata in the same hill of Hisarlik
and the first settlement is dating to 3000 BC. Continue to Bergama
along the coastal road and the famous mountain of Olympos of the
Gods and Goddesses. Visit to Pergamum, the famous Hellenistic-Roman
city, established in the 4th century, the capital of powerful
kingdom rivalling Macedonia and Egypt. On the Acropolis of Pergamum,
ancient structures dot the hillside down to the edge of the modern
town, among them the Temple of Athena and a large theatre, the
most steepest one in the world, further Zeus Altar, only the fundaments,
because the original is in Berlin Museum. Archaeologosits continue
to rebuild the city, which was renowned also for its legendary
library and the invention of parchment paper. After lunch in the
down town proceed to Asclepion, the medical complex, named after
Asclepius,
God of Healing. Galen, "The Prince of Physicians" practised here
at the fame complex. During visit you can inspect the ruins and
some reconstructions of the comfortable facilities : The Pump
Room, where spring waters were taken, a theatre and the Temple
of Asclepius. Drive back to the small town of Dikili after a ride
of 20 minutes.
