| Misir Carsisi - Spice Bazaar |
The
Spice Bazaar, known in Turkish as the Misir Carsisi (Egyptian Market),
is the sister bazaar to the Grand Bazaar. Here the aromas from just
about every spice you can imagine compete for your attention, in a heady
kaleidoscope of color and smell.
Huge
sacks filled to overflowing with cumin and cinnamon, mustard-yellow
turmeric, yellow saffron, orange tea leave, tubs of freshly roasted
pistachios, tempting dried apricots and figs. And on the shelves overhead
are jars of nutmeg, cloves, pale green cardamom seeds and the red and
white raisins used in desserts.
